08/07/2024 - Comunicato stampa
The sky was largely overcast and the temperature reached 23° for the Final of the first round of the Mondokart.com FIA Karting European Championship – KZ2 Masters at Alcaniz.
Anthony Abbasse (Sodi/TM) and Davide Foré (Birel ART/TM) were once again on the front row of the grid. From the outside line, Foré started better than his rival. Kristijan Habulin (TB Kart/TM) kept in touch with the two frontrunners, while Roberto Profico (OTK/Vortex) had already slipped back to 4th place ahead of Thomas Mich (Birel ART/TM). Abbasse closed in on the leader with the fastest time, while Mich moved up to 4th. Habulin seemed determined to play his part in the battle. Abbasse attempted an attack on Foré on lap 4 with enough determination to take P1. Habulin briefly got the better of the Italian champion, even raising his fist to show his delight, but Foré didn’t let him enjoy it for long. Mich worked hard to catch up with the leading trio, whose drivers were each separated by less than 3 tenths until halfway through the race. The battle was also fierce in the top five with Jeroen Bos (KR/TM) up seven places. Abbasse had extended his lead to almost 5 tenths over Foré, while Habulin had let several lengths slip and had to watch out for Mich.
Abbasse won by 7 tenths from Foré. Mich managed to break through Habulin’s defence, but a penalty dropped him back to 10th place. Riccardo Nalon (Parolin/TM) regained 3rd place ahead of Habulin and La Martina.
