The first FIA Karting meeting in the KZ categories began with a true verdict on the Sodi chassis, which took the lead in the three European KZ, KZ2 and KZ2-Masters Championships. On the MotorLand Aragón circuit in Alcañiz, Senna Van Walstijn dominated the KZ Final with the official team. Mattéo Spirgel of the CPB Sport team took 2nd place on the podium in KZ2 after leading the rankings at the end of the heats and Super Heats, while Anthony Abbasse was the boss in KZ2 Masters with Renda Motorsport. Sodikart also topped the Team Championships in KZ and KZ2-Masters, as did CPB Sport in KZ2.

Senna Van Walstijn winner and leader in KZ

The tone was set in Timed Practice, with Giuseppe Palomba setting the 2nd fastest time just ahead of Senna Van Walstijn. The Dutchman went on to win a heat and then a Super Heat, earning his place on the front row of the Final. Leading from the very first lap, Van Walstijn controlled the chasing pack perfectly during the first part of the race, before inexorably increasing his lead as the laps went by to win unopposed. Giuseppe Palomba and Emilien Denner brought the number of Sodi-TM Kart drivers in the top eight to three. Senna Van Walstijn will be in the lead for the European Championship finale at Val Vibrata in Italy at the end of August.

1st position in the European KZ2 Championship for Matteo Spirgel

A partner of the Sodikart factory at the highest international level, the CPB Sport team achieved a sensational overall result in KZ2. Mattéo Spirgel, Nikolas Roos, Tim Locati, Arthur Poulain, Kasper Schormans and Timo Jüngling all achieved top three results during the Spanish competition. With his four heat wins, Mattéo Spirgel took the lead on Saturday evening, before winning his Super Heat on Sunday morning. Caught in a tight spot at the start of the Final, he found himself in 3rd place at the start of the race, before coming back to take a magnificent 2nd place, which enabled him to take command of the European Championship. Well done to Dutchman Schormans for his top five finish and to the Briton Jüngling for the fastest lap of the race.

Anthony Abbasse dominant in KZ2-Masters

An official driver for the Sodi Racing Team for many years, Anthony Abbasse took up a new challenge by entering the FIA Karting European Championship in KZ2-Masters with Renda Motorsport. He took pole position and won two heats, the Super Heat and the Final, confirming the perfect efficiency of the Sodi chassis, both on a dry track and in the rain on Saturday.

“We are winning in KZ and KZ2-Master, we were very close to doing the same in KZ2 and we are leading all the Championships, Drivers and Teams,” Florent Bizalion, KZ Team Manager, was delighted to say. “I would like to congratulate the drivers, engine manufacturers and all our technicians on this fantastic overall performance, which confirms the quality of the work carried out and the extreme competitiveness of the equipment. We were able to adapt perfectly to the new Dunlop tyres and the difficult Alcañiz track. It’s also the result of the development carried out by the French factory to become a major player in the world of karting competition, as it has been for many years in the leisure sector”.
