SWS Finals: 2021 edition at Lonato

2021-07-08 - Press release

The International SWS Finals will be held this year at the most famous competition track in the world, South Garda Karting in Lonato, from 15th to 17th July, to celebrate the world’s most important leisure karting event.

A true temple of racing for several decades, the Lombardy track has notably hosted the last two FIA Karting World Championships for gearbox karts. More than 30 race weekends take place each year at the CIK-FIA-homologated circuit. In addition to this outstanding sporting attraction, the SWS World Finals will allow drivers and their supporters to benefit from the magnificent environment of the Lake Garda region with its many interesting places.

Launched in 2009 by Sodikart, the world’s number one karting company, the SWS concept has continued to develop in nearly 100 countries on every continent. The exceptional quality of go-karts, always at the forefront of innovation, as well as the exemplary organisation common to all SWS-branded circuits, have accompanied the rise of this genuine karting phenomenon. The largest international leisure karting competition now brings together over 75,000 drivers and 530 partner tracks. In the unprecedented year of 2020, marked by the worldwide Covid-19 pandemic, the members of the SWS community managed to take advantage of the tracks that remained open to exercise their passion and score the points needed to qualify for the 2021 Finals.
Because of this special year, only national rankings were used to ensure fairness between countries.

The programme of the 2021 International SWS Finals will follow its usual pattern while adapting to the infection-control regulations necessary for the safety of all. This is why the event will be held behind closed doors without the traditional festivities such as the closing ceremony which usually gathers around 500 people. The timing of the event has also evolved to reduce the number of people at the circuit. 3MK Events will ensure that the standards imposed by the Italian Ministry of Sport are respected.

The arrival of participants from 34 nations in Italy in mid-July has been prepared for in conjunction with the Italian federations. However, some countries such as Japan, the USA, Canada and Australia will not be present due to health restrictions. We look forward to seeing them in 2022!

Claudio Barbaro, Senator and President of the ASI – the Italian Motor Sport Federation – will honour us with a visit at the launch of this event along with Bertrand Pignolet – CEO of Sodikart.

Full throttle for the 120 Sprint drivers

The drivers qualified in the Sprint category will compete in the Qualifying Heats, Prefinals and Finals. The 80 Sprint Cup drivers will be using Sodi Sport – J125s, while the 40 Junior Cup and Junior Kid Cup participants will be driving 200cc Sodi LR5s, divided into two groups according to weight.

The Junior and Junior Kid winners will receive an official Sodi OMP racing suit, a Bell helmet and a Sodi Racing t-shirt. The winner of the Sprint Cup will also be rewarded with an official Sodi OMP race suit and a Bell helmet, and will also win a turnkey participation in the RMCIT 2022.

An exceptional Endurance Cup

Sodikart will invite the winning team of the 2021 Endurance Cup to participate in the legendary 24 Hours of Le Mans karting race, which will be held from 27th to 29th August 2021. Its four members will join an official Sodi team for this legendary race in order to compete against the best specialists using a Rotax MAX evo engine. The 2nd and 3rd ranked teams will win a free entry for a six-hour SWS race on the South Garda Karting track.

But before thinking about the rewards, they need to have triumphed in the 12-hour semi-night race! Thanks to the homologation of South Garda Karting, 45 teams of four drivers will compete on the 1200 m technical and physical track of Lonato. They will have the honour of driving the latest kart in the Sodi Rental range, the RT10, launched in March 2021 with its new Easy Drive technology, which has already won over drivers and international track managers since its release.
